Character Race: human witch, former Maiden Fate

(HISTORY - since the dawn of Time, three beings have stood vigil over the movements of the universe's very life force, witches known to all as the Fates. They represented the aspects of life as a whole: Maiden, Mother, and Crone. Gifted with immortality, invulnerability, and power beyond imagining, these three witches oversee the Threads of Life, not the looms and yarns of ancient Greek myth but the living "threads" of energy that weave the complex web of cosmic control that humans call Destiny. They are the directors that send Death out to claim each soul when it reaches its time to die, and they alone control the ebb and flow of destiny throughout existence. Without them, the balance of the universe itself would be no more, and chaos would reign.

As Maiden became Mother and Mother became Crone, new witches were chosen to answer the call of the Fates and serve at the will of The Powers That Be. Given that the Fates are immortal, when the Maiden reaches her time in life to take the place of Mother, the Crone is stripped of her power, along with her immortality, allowing her to relinquish her seat as Mother steps up to become Crone and a new Maiden is called.)

Character Powers: natural/trained human witch, contact healer (can heal any wound with touch), former Fate (has since been stripped of her invulnerability, but still posesses the power to see a person's destiny, the path their life has taken and will take, all in a single glance.)

Character Abilities: plays both guitar and bass, trained swordswoman, has a flair for knifefighting, dabbles in the martial arts but remains unaccredited, has a keen business sense and enjoys dealing in all things financial (not for monetary gain, is simply fascinated by commerce and the science and strategy of high finance)

Character Weaknesses: cast out of the Fates, she was stripped of her protections, robbing her of invulnerability though she remains immortal. As such, posesses all the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of her again-mortal form, and is faced with an eternity to live with her disgrace. Cursed by her former "sisters" the Fates, she is unable to use her healing hands on herself. Also, having changed her own destiny against the will of The Powers That Be, she can still see the fates of others but is forever blind to her own.

Nature and Demeanor: a study in contradictions...balances a good heart and a bad attitude almost perfectly. Naturally aggressive and forthright, often comes off as abraisive but is saved from the 'bitchy' stereotype by her unique sense of humor and naturally warm demeanor. Personable and outgoing, but is hesitant about forming new relationships, platonic and otherwise. Highly mature and level headed for her apparent age, but has a wild streak that runs deep and long...to all appearances, the living embodiment of 'old enough to know better, and young enough not to care.'

Appearance: 5'7", long chesnut brown hair, dark eyes, lean, athletic frame, cartouche running along spine which translates to her mortal name, angry red scars on both wrists, vaugely detailing the impression of chains

Family: though her mortal bloodline continued during her service as a Fate, she does not know her family, nor does she have a clue where to find them

History: born in 2,000 B.C., Nahkti was the daughter of a priestess of Bastet, also a natural born witch. Studying almost from birth to learn her mother's craft, when she proved her power she was initiated into a deeper level of worship...a secret sect devoted to the divinity of the cat goddess and her female trinity: Maiden, Mother, and Crone. In this inner sanctum, the most devoted and powerful of Bastet's priestesses worshipped more than the goddess herself: they served the ones who served her and all the gods, including Osiris himself. These were the Fates, and from this jealously guarded sect they culled those who would serve when the time to take a new sister into the fold arrived.

After Nahkti came of age at thirteen, she was taken in by the high priestess of the temple for further training. Through her, she was cared for by the servants of the Powers themselves, educated and trained in the use of her power until the day that a new Maiden was called. From those who the Powers took charge of, Jade was chosen for this task at eighteen.

For nearly three millenia, Nahkti served faithfully, overseeing with her new "sisters" the balance of life and destiny throughout the fabric of existence. Though strong-willed, she served the Powers That Be without question, and never once defied those rare and important requests they would make of her. Though her task was a heavy one and the results of her work sometimes unseemly when she had to guide the lives of mortals into peril or ruin, she did her job and lived up to every challenge as best she could, understanding that it wasn't her place to question the will of Destiny.

Then the day came when her own destiny was put in question.

As the Crone prepared to step down that the Mother may rise and the Maiden might marry, Jade was faced with a revelation she'd never expected: believing she was to choose herself a husband, she was instead commanded to marry a man from the collective of humans charged to the Powers' care. Without hesitating, she refused, demanding the right to choose her own mate. The Powers rejected her demand, and the Fates were thrown into upheaval. When Nahkti made it clear that she would not bend to this edict, she was tried and punished by the Powers...the very gods she'd worshipped and served so faithfully.

Stripped of her protections and much of her power, robbed of her divinity, she was cast into the human world to survive on her own and suffer eternally...walking among the mortals she'd once held in her sights, clinging to shreds of her former glory and forever at the mercy of her former sisters.

Nahkti swore revenge on the Fates, vowing to survive their punishment to spite them all. She would make her own destiny, and not only survive her punishment: she would thrive in spite of it. Casting off her former name, she was reborn into the world of Man under a new one, and many others as the years progressed. Along with her name, she also bore a new conviction to never give herself to any man she did not love, nor would she let herself be tied down to any living being out of sheer obligation. She would do as she pleased, whenever she pleased, she would live the future she'd always wanted for herself, and never give the Fates or the Powers the satisfaction of seeing her caged.
